We recognise the importance of local indigenous and non-indigenous cultural heritage and we are committed to working with the local community to protect and preserve this important history.
A Cultural Heritage Management Plan was negotiated with the Traditional Owners associated with the Project mining lease application areas, with the finding and management of artefacts an ongoing process with Traditional Owners during the development, construction and operation of the Project.
The Project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Supplementary EIS identified various sites of local importance for non-indigenous cultural heritage.
Through our work with the local community, we have been listening to the needs and concerns of community members, and have identified the following initiatives that will be implemented as part of the Project:
-
undertaking, if feasible, a structural and architectural heritage assessment of the Booral homestead and an historic meat shed, located in the proposed mine area
-
if structurally sound, the homestead and shed may be sympathetically reused or maintained.
Please read our fact sheet for more information on how we will preserve local cultural heritage.
