Sustainable Development Standards
Xstrata Coal Queensland is committed to caring for the communities and environments in which it operates. It does this through best practice management programs and by implementing Xstrata’s seventeen Sustainable Development Management Standards, which focus on achieving excellence in health, safety, environment and community management. Each of these standards will be adopted for the Wandoan Coal Project.
Xstrata was named the mining sector leader for the third consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2009/10. It was also named a platinum level company and the mining sector leader by the United Kingdom’s Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility Index.Xstrata’s 17 Sustainable Development Standards, along with our Business Principles and Sustainable Development Policy form our Sustainable Development Framework. Compliance to this Framework assures performance to international sustainability standards, beyond regulatory compliance.
